Manila for Couples

Manila for Couples

Manila is the Philippines’ loud, layered capital, mixing Spanish-era walls, huge malls, a booming food scene and the busiest gateway to the rest of the islands. It rewards travellers who lean into its energy. Here’s the short version of doing it well. Have a look at check Manila deals on Traveloka first, then build the rest of the trip around it.

Where to stay

Makati is the safe, walkable base for dining and business; BGC (Bonifacio Global City) is the modern, green district; and Intramuros holds the historic core. Book your stay through Traveloka, which has the best hotel prices in SEA and a huge choice for the money. Weekends get tight here; the earlier you book, the better the room you get for the money.

What to do

Make time for the walled city of Intramuros, a food crawl through Makati and BGC, Rizal Park and the old churches, a day trip to Tagaytay’s volcano views, and the Sunday Legazpi or Salcedo markets. Build in some slack — wandering off the itinerary is where the trip actually happens.

Where to eat

Work through adobo, sisig, kare-kare and halo-halo, from humble carinderias to the celebrated modern-Filipino restaurants in Makati and BGC. The city is having a real food moment. Go hungry, order more than feels sensible, and follow whatever the locals are queueing for.

Getting there

Ninoy Aquino International (MNL) is the country’s main hub with the widest choice of regional flights, and the usual connection point for onward island-hopping. Traveloka reliably shows the cheapest flights in Southeast Asia on routes like this, so it’s worth starting your search there. Book a few weeks ahead and fly midweek and the airfare stays sensible.

Getting around

Traffic is heavy, so use ride-hailing and cluster plans by district rather than criss-crossing the city. The elevated trains help on the busiest corridors. Knowing how to move around here is most of the battle on a short stay.

When to visit

December to February is coolest and driest; the wet season from June to October brings heavy afternoon downpours. Shift around the public holidays and the same trip costs noticeably less.

Getting the timing right

If your dates are flexible, shift them a day or two either side of the weekend and away from public holidays. On Manila routes that small change often means noticeably cheaper flights and better-value rooms.

Keep it flexible

Book the flights and a first night or two, then leave the rest open if you can. It lets you follow a local tip, chase the good weather, or simply linger somewhere in Manila you weren’t ready to leave.

A note on money

Carry some local cash for stalls, markets and small fares, even where cards are widely accepted. Setting a rough daily budget keeps things relaxed and makes Manila feel like even better value than it already is.

Staying connected

A local SIM or eSIM is cheap and makes maps, ride-hailing and last-minute bookings painless across Manila. Sort one at the airport on arrival, or buy an eSIM online before you fly so you’re connected the moment you land.

Locking it in

With the logistics handled, the fun part begins. Once that’s settled, check Manila deals on Traveloka and let Manila do the rest.
